Notes: The Y-STR haplotypes of 2443 male individuals in North America were determined, and allele frequencies were compiled for African-Americans, Asians, Caucasians, Hispanics and Native Americans. The information presented includes haplotype frequencies, mutation rates, genetic diversity, population substructure effects and concordance. Y-STR haplotypes were determined using the PowerPlex® Y System. DNA samples were obtained as liquid whole blood, buccal swabs or dried blood on FTA® blood cards and extracted using phenol-chloroform extraction, a salting out method, Chelex®, the DNA IQ™ System or the QIAamp blood kit. Amplifications contained 0.5–1.0ng of purified DNA or a 1.2mm FTA® punch. Amplification products were detected using the ABI PRISM® 377 DNA sequencer or the ABI PRISM® 310 or 3100 genetic analyzer.
